Secure Video Library Creation

Schools have a huge untapped reservoir of knowledge and good teaching and learning practice. Video enabled professional learning is a proven mechanism for uncovering this huge potential and develop consistently good practice across the whole organisation.

First we have to acknowledge that it’s not easy for a lot of teachers to feel comfortable watching themselves on video. Allowing others to watch them can be even more frightening (although many teachers we’ve worked with are ok with colleagues watching them but in no way will they watch themselves!). On the other hand, many teachers are more than keen to record, reflect and share their lessons. Here’s how we support the careful introduction of video-enabled CPD:

^

We show staff the security protocols that ensure that absolutely nobody else can view their videos without their express permission.

^

We demonstrate how the IRIS Connect App instantly encrypts recordings and uploads them to their private account library.

^

We make it clear that the teacher has sole control over whether or not their video is permanently, irretrievably deleted. (and show them how they can also use the quick edit tool to remove any sections they don’t like or want).

^

We put teachers in touch with colleagues in other schools where they have overcome challenges and experienced success.

^

We train teachers in what to look for – focussing much more on the learning and the learners rather than the teaching and the teacher.

^

We set achievable quick wins and design mini-projects – always with incentives, reviews and next steps.

^

We use example videos to stimulate quality ‘professional discussions’ using the ‘comment while you watch’ tool.

We learned very quickly that the most successful projects are driven by a clearly communicated purpose and teacher consent (buy-in). This doesn’t have to be whole staff or even majority to start with, but in pretty much every school there will be a group who see the importance and potential of collaboration with video. Leaders’ role is essential here i.e. a leader who shares clips from their own classroom will invariably launch a successful programme of development. We can help you plan and implement this – use this form to find out more.
